Stemming from home and foreign literature the author deals with problems of flags in old Hungary from the second half of 14% to the end of 15% century on the background of broader social context. The author points out that in the searched period armorial signs, primarily placed on shields and flags of warriors, fulfilled role of state symbols. Although there is no flag preserved from that period, there were preserved images and other kinds of original resources, mainly iconographical resources allowing to follow a form and shape of flags. Referring to the analysis the author concludes that from the period of the king Sigmund a two-branch cross may be regarded as a symbol of the North Hungary —northern part of the Hungarian Kingdom.
