In the introduction the author of the study notes that after Otoman´s occupation of Budin in 1541 it came to reassessment of the organisation of military defence of the country. He points out that before 1556 it referred mainly to building and arranging the defence within the bounds of possibility mainly through repair and modernisation of older castles, cloisters etc. From 1556 the construction of fortification defensive system in Hungary got a new dimension and more complex form while the attention was moved to strategically more important castles and defensive complexes together with a gradual formation of multilateral line of fortifications and places fortified to depth capable of catching the Turkish invasions also after the fall of fortifications in the first line and defensive facilities are adapted to new battle conditions. The author reminded that also city fortifications or fortified towns with more resistant and larger defensive systems and internal equipment had come to the fore. In other parts of the study the author observes numbers of new castles or modernisation of older ones and briefly evaluates their strategic importance, way of siege of fortifications by Otomans in our territory, numbers of garrisons. During 15-year war when changes in quality of imperial and royal troops started to be shown more significantly, there were also shifts in strategic thinking in the Court War Council and an increase of activity in the field.
